Overcomer

No one has to think very hard to come up with a list of troubles, right? Trouble is all around us. Jesus said that it would be. He said, “In this world you will have trouble.” There are stories of troubles written in the newspapers, magazines, and on the internet and told on the television. There are stories of troubles in all our lives. What kind of troubles are in your city, state, and country? What kind of troubles are in your life? Write down a few… Sometimes it literally takes us to put our troubles on one side and the glory on the other side to see which one outweighs the other. Let’s illustrate this point…Take all the suffering of this life, pain, heartache, rejection, misunderstanding, evil we encounter, hatred directed at us, sadness, tears, sleepless nights, fear, doubt, worry, confusion, sickness, broken dreams, and anything else you can think of. Put that on one side of the balance scale. Now place on the other side these things . . .The Word of God, promises of God, love of God, power of God, plan of God, wisdom of God, kindness of God, sovereignty of God, grace of God, and then add to that the death of Jesus with its transforming power toward us who believe, and then add to that the resurrection of Jesus who came forth from the tomb undefeated, alive from the dead, holding the keys of death and Hades in his hand, who is now declared the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Factor all that in, and then add to it the indwelling Holy Spirit who is the down payment on all the promises of God and the guarantee of our salvation. Now put that sum on the other side of the balance scale. You do the figuring. Which one outweighs the other? I don’t know about you but that is good news to me!

Jesus says that there will be trouble, but He also says, “be of good cheer!” This means to be confident or bold in an inconvenient situation. Be brave! You’ve got this! Be fearless! You can do this! The great news is that we don’t have to be brave alone. We aren’t fighting troubles alone. We can be courageous because Jesus showed us how to be. He chose to die on that cross for our sins and rose in three days to show that He can overcome ANYTHING!!!! Jesus did it and we can too, with His help.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33 NIV

Stop focusing on the trouble and focus on the One who can help you overcome
